2010 Began with a BANG!
We began the 2010 charter season on May 1st with Peter Primavera and
his son Mathew from Clovis, California. The Primaveras finished with
four limits, releasing two that day--just keeping it legal! Between
then and now, 16 groups have chartered to date--June 15, 2010. The
charters have averaged approximately 18 fish per trip. This makes a
total catch of 263 in May, not to mention the big one that got away!
I love taking families out, and this year is no
exception. Over half of the charters I log are family groups. There is nothing better than watching a

young person catch and land their first fish. They are instantly hooked on fishing for life.
The Kokanee bite has been
one of the best in recent years. Trout has also been good, but when the
Kokanee bite, we target them. Folks love eating those pink meat,
landlocked salmon. Now, the outlook for this year's fishing looks
great. The Department of Fish and Game (D.F.G.) plants approximately 18
to 20 thousand pounds of catchable trout throughout the season. A plant
of trophy trout to five pounds is scheduled for sometime this season,
so get ready. Couple that with the abundance of trout and one of the
finest Kokanee fisheries in the Central California region and this
looks to be a great place to spend a morning of fishing. Picture it; a
crisp early morning with you sitting on a calm mountain lake with your
friends or loved ones. I can think of nothing better!
I could go on and on about fishing, but I must say
that Shaver Lake is one of the greatest sites in the Sierra Nevada
Mountains. Our eagle and osprey community often put on an aerial show,
diving for their fish breakfast on the lake surface most any morning.
The ducks seem to follow the boat each day, waiting for kind folks to
throw them a snack. Oh! Speaking of snack, each angler is served a nice
lunch from the Shaver Lake Deli along with a soda or bottled water. Now
how does it sound? Well, you are invited to join me for a great
experience and put your picture of success on our photo page. No
promises on the numbers, but we do have a history of success.

For those of you looking for places to stay while visiting Shaver Lake,
look at our Links and Lures page of this web site. The Edison
Campground is among the top 10 in the nation camping facilities. There
are also good places to eat and other activities including horseback
riding, fine art, woodcraft, and photography gallery hopping featuring
local artists. The Central Sierra Museum at Edison Campground is a must
see, also.
